***** WARNING: iTunes 7.6 breaks myFairTunes and QTFairUse6 - but does NOT break FFH *****

HOWEVER - Quicktime 7.4.1 appears to break FFH

This forum does NOT allow discussion of piracy of any kind. The software on this site is to be used ONLY for unlocking music you have personally purchased legally. Any discussion of how to unlock unauthorized music or pirated software will be deleted. Further infractions of this rule could get you banned at the moderator's discretion.

Now on to the good stuff.

Mac Solutions:

Good news everybody! Smile Some work has been done recently on the Mac side of the house. It's a work in progress but if you're the adventurous type head on over to the thread.

FFH

FFH Discussion

Otherwise your options are limited to burn/rip cd's, recording the music as you play it using something like AudioHijack, or using the iMovie tricks. PLEASE SEARCH THE FORUMS FOR MORE INFORMATION ON THESE OPTIONS!

Windows Solutions:

We are blessed with two EXCELLENT solutions for windows: myFairTunes7 and QTFairUse6.

NOTE: To use these programs the following *MUST* be set up correctly:

-iTunes MUST be authorized to play the songs in your library
-iTunes preferences, turn crossfade OFF
-All music MUST be part of the iTunes library
-Music must be on the main drive. It MIGHT work from a second drive, but, not a network share or NAS.
-All protected songs MUST be checked in your main playlist
-No Start and End times should be set

The downloads for both QTFairUse6 and myFairTunes7 contain the latest patch files. If you are downloading the main program, there is no need to download the patch file or cfg file separately.

myFairTunes7
[Thanks to undead for this great program!]

QTFairUse6 Discussion

Q&A Section

Q: I'm seeing something about COM in my error log in QTFairUse6. (E.G. com_error: (-2147319779, 'Library not registered.', None, None) ). WTF?
A: Try the following: Click start, run, and type "iTunes /regserver" and click ok.

Q: I'm getting an error that the iTunes version isn't supported by QTFairUse6.
A: Check the links above to see if an updated CFG file has been created to handle the new version.

Q: QTFairUse6 is erroring out when attempting to convert my songs on a network storage device.
A: The songs must be part of the iTunes library and either be on a mapped drive or local. If you're having this problem, try moving your library locally and making sure the songs you are trying to convert are part of your iTunes library.

Q: QTFairUse6 is giving me an error dumping file message. I've tried changing the hooktype and it didn't help.
A: First, make sure that your library is on a system drive, not NAS, and that all songs are part of your library. If that is not the issue, then check the bitrate of the song. If it's a non-standard bitrate, it's possible that QTFU will not work for this song. You will have to deprotect it using another method. By non-standard bitrate, what I'm referring to here is that a typical protected song that you purchase from iTunes will be 128kbps. We've seen songs that have 127, 256, and apparently 267. Unprotected songs purchased from iTunes will generally be 256. However, these do not need to be run through QTFU so they won't cause problems. The others, however, have been causing all kinds of weird issues. Again, if you run into this issue, you may need to unprotect those songs with another method.
Another thing to check thanks to a post by Trance007 is to make sure you don't have a start and end time checked off in the song's get info/options tab. Uncheck both start time and end time if you're getting the error dumping file message.

Q: iTunes gives me a password prompt when I open it. This is causing QTFU to screw up and error out. Any way to fix this?
A: Several users have run into this with version 7.2.0.35. A couple of them found that going to the iTunes Download directory and removing the file "list.plist" will work. If that fails, a more drastic approach is to remove iTunesPrefs.xml from your machine.

Q: Ok, I got my music deprotected. Now I want mp3's or some other format.
A: iTunes allows you to convert unprotected music to MP3. Go to preferences, advanced, importing and on the Import Using drop down select MP3. You can then set the bitrate using the Setting drop down. Now, right click on your song that you want to convert and select Convert Selection to MP3. For other formats, you'll need to use an external conversion program like dbPowerAmp.

Q: I have a "branded" version of iTunes and it doesn't work with myFairTunes or QTFairUse6. What can I do?
A:
Quote:
Open regedit,
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->Software->Apple Computer, Inc.->iTunes

Delete Partner entry (if you want you can take an screenshot of the values there, but they're useless)....

Close regedit window.

If this doesn't work, uninstall iTunes and download it from Apple directly.

Q: I've used all my iTunes authorizations and I can't authorize my machine for the song I want to decrypt. What can I do?
A: iTunes Authorization FAQ

Q: I didn't find the answer I'm looking for in this FAQ.
A: First, re-read the FAQ carefully and double check everything. Then check the Start Here forum for topics that have some great information. Then do a search on the problem you're having in the rest of the forums. If none of those options turn up any useful information, post a cry for help in the Help forum and someone will probably try to help you out.
