| Chillywilly, Requiem is up to 1.7.3, and iTunes is at 7.7, and they work fine together. |

Thanks beetle. I just updated to Quicktime 7.5 and iTunes 7.6.2 today and all is working well. I was at iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4.1 for the longest time using the original version of Requiem 1.0 on songs only.
Will most likely do the iTunes 7.7 next week, since my wife needs to update her iPod touch to the latest firmware. |

1,000,000 members? If they keep gaining members at the current rate, that'll only take them 3,000 years.
Maybe they should start having members leave without joining first. Then, with any luck, they'll make like my post count and wrap around backwards. |

I wish them the best of luck, but, there's zero chance it'll make any difference, unfortunately. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

I'm more curious about the latest rumors. iTunes 8.0 is coming in about 3 or so weeks. I hear it's going to offer an unlimited subscription model for 129 bucks a year. I'd almost go for that. Download ANY music I want for 129 bucks a year? Yea, ok, I'd suffer through the DRM crap for that. Because in that case I don't own the music so I wouldn't feel compelled to remove the DRM. Apple could win me over if the rumors turn out to be accurate. Plus I think I might be getting an iPod Touch for Xmas this year, so, it'd be very much worth the subscription price. Apple would make a ton of money doing that...just in my house alone. But *ONLY* if there are no restrictions like "only a quarter of the songs are available" or some such crap. If they make the whole shabang available at that price, I'm sold. How about it, Apple? You game? _________________ READ THE FAQ |

That would be cool, but I use iTunes anyways... I honestly don't download enough songs though... It probably wouldn't work for things like southpark seasons (If it did, I'm sold. I would just buy all the seasons, over, and over, and over, just to make them lose money ) _________________ They really think they've beat us, don't they? |

It's a music subscription, not a video subscription. They're not about to give you ALL content for everything for 129 bucks a year! It's just music. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

Isn't that about the same thing as attempting to decrypt movie rentals?
Seriously, though, if they did do that subscription model they would change their DRM scheme like every DRM-hating customer would despise. Requiem may no longer work. _________________ JHymn, rest in peace! You will be missed. |

Yes it is, and that's my point. A subscription model means you don't own anything. You have a perpetual renter's license. Which is fine. As much as I despise DRM, this is a case where I could live with it because it'd be on something I don't actually own. Big difference between purchasing a song with DRM on it and subscribing to a service.
As for requiem, I think you should prepare yourself for that fact anyway. Version 8 sounds like a pretty big upgrade. I would imagine they may change it to break requiem. This is very much why I suggested they cache the keys. But, alas, I fear that idea is a bit too late. iTunes 8 is coming, and knowing Apple, we may all be forced to upgrade or no longer be able to access the store. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

Version 8!?!?
But, but, nooo!!!!! I ... must ... buy more music and videos before that happens! Decrypting DRM is a fun hobby! _________________ JHymn, rest in peace! You will be missed. |

You apparently didn't get the memo. September is Apple's big month. They refresh their product line and almost always introduce a revamped iTunes to go with it. And invariably it is full of bugs. However, you can be sure that they will take the time to break requiem. Even if it's a subtle change, it'd be enough to screw with most people for a while. And given the nature of how iTunes works, I can think of at least 3 quick and easy ways to screw with requiem to break it. And depending on how serious they are, they could REALLY break it badly if they so chose. I'm hoping they go for a quick and easy approach to solving their immediate problem. You need to remember this is a game. More for those that like to actually OWN what we purchase, but, for every move the DRM breakers make, Apple has to respond in kind. Sometimes they take a while to get around to it, other times they take a rather direct approach. Version 8 of iTunes gives them a good excuse to change things in a way that'll either make it easy to fix or brutally difficult. We'll see what's in store. (Yes, I grant you, the possibility remains that they don't touch anything that'd touch how requiem works, but, I'm not giving you good odds on that one). _________________ READ THE FAQ |

| I would be very surprised if it managed to completely thwart Brahms, though. |

That isn't what I said. He reverse engineered it once, so, it should be much easier this time, no matter what they do. It can't be too radically different or it'll stop working with iPods. I'm personally figuring on a change to the keystore encryption. That'd be the obvious easy way for them to go. That'd be a pain but not impossible to figure out. I suspect Brahms will deal with it if and when requiem breaks. But, seriously, given how heavy handed they were when it was released, I'd be surprised if they didn't attempt to break it. _________________ READ THE FAQ |
