Ok, I give...I've been trying for 3 days to beat my music library into submission. Reading this forum, reading the FAQ. Re-reading this forum and FAQ...I give. I'll ask for help, sorry

So here's the scoop. I have 600 some odd purchased iTunes songs. All these have been done on a Mac w/ varying rev levels of iTunes.
I back my library up to an external USB HD connected to my desktop. I have iTunes 7.0.2.16 and QTFU6 on there also, and this is where I am running my conversion from.
FU6 works on most(?) of my songs. But I get a mix of the following errors on the rest:

Processing "G:\musiclib1206\Smashing Pumpkins\Gish\09 Window Paine.m4p"
Error while dumping
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "QTFairUse6.pyo", line 464, in dumpTrack
File "dedrm.pyo", line 270, in __init__
File "dedrm.pyo", line 210, in __init__
File "dedrm.pyo", line 79, in __init__
MP4Error: Bad atom <GIBBERISH HERE> at 005AA4B5: length was 659941367 bytes, consumed 14 bytes
-------
Processing "G:\musiclib1206\Spoon\Gimme Fiction\07 I Summon You.m4p"
Error while dumping
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "QTFairUse6.pyo", line 464, in dumpTrack
File "dedrm.pyo", line 270, in __init__
File "dedrm.pyo", line 210, in __init__
File "dedrm.pyo", line 76, in __init__
OverflowError: long int too large to convert to int

Any thoughts or info will be greatly appreciated. Anything glaringly obvious that I should be beaten for missing will also be appreciated.
I tried to work thru it, I just don't see any ryhme or reason why some of the songs can be converted from .M4P to .M4A and not the rest.

Thanks for the time!

Uh... Are you saying that you are trying to convert the songs using a Mac or you just bought the songs on a Mac and transfered them over to a PC...

Because neither of the applications work on a Mac.

Ok, just wanted to make sure, the error didn't look like it, but when you said you used a Mac for it I was a bit befuddled.

Np...sorry i wasnt' more clear. The entire things is kinda befuddling me (which isn't that difficult). The fact that it works on most of the songs (and songs off the same album, purchased at the same time) is what has me preplexed.

Hmm... Did you retry those songs (maybe in a different order)? Sometimes that helps.

Did we try the suggestion in the readme?

Quote:

4) If you always get "Error while dumping; deleting incomplete file", especially if your song has an "unusual" bitrate (not 128 kbit/s), edit QTFairUse6.cfg (e.g. with Notepad) and change the "HookType" value to 1.

Dammit...I even proof read my post. But, yes...Hooktype was changed to 1 prior to posting. I do wonder if I should change it back to "0" tho, cuz I have changed the way I loaded my iTunes library on my PC. Previously it was ALL my songs I tried converting (hooktype = 0). That didn't work, changed hooktype to "=1"; that didn't work.
Then I deleted my library and recreated it with ONLY the M4P files (hooktype still set to "1").

I'll try resetting it back to "0" and see what happens.

I'll keep ya posted. =)

It's worth a shot anyway. No promises that it'll work, but, what have you got to lose? Smile

I believe I know what is wrong!

I think, and I'm just guessing, but let me see...

Your iTunes library, is every file in a subfolder exactly as sorted when you bought it? What I'd try doing is a search for all m4p's, then drag all 600 songs into a single folder and use something to rename them all according to their tags. I use The GodFather but prior to that I chance all their extensions to m4a since The GodFather won't read m4p files. Take care though you'd only be renaming them not removing or changing any tags, otherwise your entire library will become corrupt.

Now that's one idea right there, perhaps the subdirectory's are somehow interefering with the conversions.

Another idea is maybe you installed iTunes over another version, in which case I'd say your only recourse is to reinstall XP and try again, alas that isn't entirely logical and I bet you'd end up with the same results.

Umm.... Also I have a real idea now, group your songs into folders of 100. Convert them 100 at a time, then see which give you trouble. Look for any particular reasons they might.

Also don't keep the HookType set to 1, I believe all this does is disable the QTFairUse checking to verify the copy, thus it works but still looses a few frames in the end! If I'm wrong tell me, but part of me thinks I'm right :-D

Now ummm Uninstall python script if you installed it. Uninstall iTunes if you have it installed.

Also friend don't you think that this may, just somewhat, be an issue with iTunes settings? Go through and disable everything you can think of, I bet it may work.

Finally I'm a loser virgin, help :-Z~

awright...no more coffee for sderenzi. A little history...I reinstalled XP a few days ago. iTunes was actually reinstalled on my PC AFTER deciding to try and convert to my itunes library.

Something odd (or not...I dunno), it looks like every time I run FU6 it does a couple more songs. Sometimes 1, sometimes 5.

I guess I can keep running it until they are all done. I may do a search of *.m4p and move all those to a seperate file, then to *.m4a and keep running FU6 until they match...yoiks =)

Thanks for the help. I appreciate ya'll trying.

Ugh, that rather blows to have to do that. You don't have any screwy playlists or anything like that do you? Man I wish I could think of anything to help you on that one. That's a lot of songs to have to do that to.

Hahahaha... I think it was something similar to...

Incorrect characters... But this was solved I think, and none of those characters in the error messages are non-alpha-numeric. So that's out the window.

And the other one I picked up was the uninstall and reinstall...

And finally a "check your settings" part... It's a good set of backup plans. Re-Installing XP sounds kind of... Well... I'm not gonna go there. Hopefully igorsk will have a clue.

But then again, maybe if we invert the flux capacitor and implant a rot-24 encryption onto the signal going to the named capacitor thus enabling us FREE MUSIC! hehe, limewirez! Just kidding sderenzi.

And just be happy you can actually free up your music. My iPod does not like DRM... Ironic actually.
