Well, I'm guessing Apple did not like the requiem project that was posted in Technical as the site host received a C&D letter demanding that all downloads be removed from the site. Until further notice, no links are to be posted anywhere on the site to programs that can strip DRM from any of Apple's music or videos. Any user who does so will get the link removed and a warning from us. Any further infraction will get you banned permanently. The site will remain open for now and we won't have a problem as long as we abide by the C&D.
However, on a more personal level this just pisses me off. In no way has this site ever promoted piracy. Those of you who've attempted to discuss such topics know that we take a very heavy handed approach. This was partly to protect us but also because we feel that artists should be compensated for their work. We truly believe that people should be able to free the music they've legally purchased from the shackles of DRM. So, we've attempted through the years to keep a balance of fair use.
Apparently with requiem the balance has been broken in Apple's eyes. This is really a shame...for them. Because I can no longer remove the DRM from songs I purchase legally from iTunes, I am boycotting the iTunes store and purchasing all my future music from vendors who no longer shackle their music with the chains of DRM. I suggest you do the same. We've complied with the C&D and removed all DRM breaking software from the site. But they can't force us to purchase DRM'd music from their store. I've been a long time fan of Apple and iTunes. But this latest move just plain pisses me off. So, I can no longer support them. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

Bye, bye Miss American Pie.
| Quote: | I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't play
And in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died

Great. Now I can't use the songs *I* purchased on my own freaking computer to play games to, etc.
Too bad someone doesn't have the time and money to fight this C&D in court. |

That would be up to the site owner to do that. iTunesIsEvil and I are not much more than glorified moderators here. We basically just do the mundane day to day chores. We'll see what happens. We're going to abide by the order until I'm told otherwise. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

| They might be cracking down in response to Doubletwist too. Either way, its a bummer, just when things started moving for mac users. |

No, doubletwist had nothing to do with it. I'm quite sure requiem got their panties in a bunch. The part that sucks is we had absolutely nothing to do with it. The link to rapidshare got posted here, yea, but, it wasn't our doing. Yet we got slapped anyway. Doubletwist, for the record, is nothing more than a fancy dressed up tunebite and in no way "cracks" any encryption. _________________ READ THE FAQ |

| From what I can tell, Doubletwist is a lame dressed-up reimplementation of "m4p2au" - a tool which I posted here some time ago that'd capture data passing through Quicktime's audio output. It's really rather uninteresting; I'd have expected DVD Jon to come up with something more creative. |

| I pretty much wasn't expecting to see anything "interesting" out of DVD Jon ever again because he lives in the US now and has a job (and US law) to look out for. |

| Incidentally, someone should write this up and get it on Slashdot to get the geek lawyers out there aware. |

Wow, I mean wow
This site has been through much. I came to this site several months (at least) before JHymn was broken. A eulogy (okay, it may not rhyme all the time, but it will be a farewell) must be composed to this site and its purpose.
========================================
Consumers were faced with two solutions in obtaining digital music.
Option 1 - through illegal means, or Option 2 - legal means.
Those who did it illegally broke the law and risked getting sued.
Or those who purchase were screwed.
For those who purchase, will get DRM
A system which takes away all of our freedom
"Now, What O now, must I do?"
"I know!," cries FutureProof.
"I will create JHymn, which will be new,
it will help, it will make consumers happy,
but most best of all, they could listen to their iTunes on a Zune."
We must take care of this site, says iTunesIsEvil and DRMBytes.
Desires to keep this site going is to encourage the laws of all copyrights.
If we see something blatant we will lock threads and warn.
If done again, we will ban.
Whatever it takes to encourage the mission
of unlocking the keys of Apple's oppression.
Wait, what's this we see? iTunes 6 broke our beloved app?
What must we do? Who are these saps?
Now, many people are complaining.
Nor do they read.
What part do they not understand?
Our apps do NOT work. Please read before posting!
Joy, oh, joy! New apps came in
QTFairUse and MyFairTunes work great!
Sure there are offsets for every version,
but now our music can be free!
Oh, no! Our ultimate dead end! A cease and desist letter
We can no longer offer these apps given with much love.
Our only solution is the REVOLUTION.
Boycott iTunes, and go to Amazon.
The age of DRM-free music is non-stop now.
We now live in an age where there are no borders or boundaries.
Where anything is possible. So, Apple, after I end this poem, I'm going to let you know we're going to be free - where we get to choose what we get to do with our music. _________________ JHymn, rest in peace! You will be missed.

So, my american fellows: how come you still stick to the iTunes store when you have other stores like Amazon MP3 which offers DRM free music?
If we had this oppertunity in Europe, I would have abandoned Apple ages ago
If no one ever buys music from them, then they will loose in the end. It's just a matter of time! And I really do hope that they loose, and that they go down in history as a company no one ever remember anymore. |

Not... not so sure that'll ever happen. Even if their music/video business dies off. _________________ "Hooray! I'm Helping!" - Dr. Zoidberg while being held Hostage. |

Selection. The iTunes store still has a lot of stuff that you can't find on Amazon, although hopefully that is changing. I do prefer to buy from Amazon when I can find what I want there.
I also like the iTunes store for searching and browsing, and sometimes, despite my best intentions, force of habit gets the better of me and I find myself clicking "buy" without checking Amazon first. I'm working on that. |
